Susan Collins' contribution to Silicon Fen is a series of gradually unfolding digital landscapes, linked to webcams dotted around the region. In each of these iconic scenes, images evolve pixel by pixel, each dot representing a separate and unique moment in time. The slow, hypnotic updating of each of the images (which is governed by the flow of traffic over the internet) can be observed from the Silicon Fen website, where the landscapes can also be downloaded to individual users' machines as a free distributable artwork. The first of these pixel landscapes, collectively entitled Fenlandia, is a webcam view overlooking the Great Ouse and the New Bedford River at Sutton Gault, west of Ely, which will run for a period of twelve months, recording ongoing changes in the landscape. Other views will be added over the course of the year.
